Hello, my dear farmers! In today's blog, I'll be talking about our final assignment for our lovely ICT course. We were asked to interact with an AI tool, either via voice chat or text. I chose to engage with the characterized AI, interacting with Detective Jake Peralta from the infamous TV sitcom 'Brooklyn-99'. For this task, I used the AI-based platform called "Magic School" which offers various tools and has two different versions: one for students, and the other specialized just for educators. They even have a joke creator which might help if you need something to lighten up the students' mood. They even named their chatbot 'Raina'.
It was an interesting process asking Raina to talk to me as Jake Peralta. I asked questions regarding his occupation and relationships. The responses mostly aligned with his characteristics. They were also in line with the plot. Raina lacked the emotional sincerity that a human would have, though. Thankfully, this challenged me to think more critically and helped me gain a more detailed perspective. The only difficulty I faced was that I was not able to edit my questions. When I made a spelling mistake, I had to restart the whole process. I have to accept the fact that their feedback feature is no joke.
Would I integrate AI tools in my teaching practice as a future teacher?
As a future teacher, I would use AI tools to make learning more enjoyable for my students. Since AI can help personalize education by adapting to students' individual needs and wants, it would benefit both us and our students. My motto as a future teacher who loves learning new languages is 'to have fun, not suffer'. Even, though I am not a huge fan of AI tools since I personally think they are killing one's creativity and limiting their freedom, I would try to integrate AI tools into my teaching practice by making my students aware of the downsides of AI. Do not forget! Everything is beautiful and fun when it's under control.
